The moment the husband and I set our foot in Siem Reap his first question was, “so what to eat and where to eat now?”. E, prefers Vegetarian food, he considers himself a fake vegetarian 🙂 because he still eat egg and mushroom. I, on the other hand is practicing Pescan diet, so its not really hard for me to find a place to eat when we travel. I admit, it was my bad as I didn’t really research well for vegetarian places in Siem Reap, I was actually hoping that its very easy to spot one. 🙂
Luckily, some of the restaurants serves vegetable dishes, though its not really pure vegetarian as they also include fish sauce to their ingredients. 🙂 I can’t really call E a vegetarian, because again, he still eats egg, hehehe, so problem solved. We will just order a vegetable dish for him.
Below are the food we had during our 2 days stay in Siem Reap. We had our breakfast at the hotel, just the basic one, egg, bread and coffee.
Four our lunch, he had this Khmer mixed vegetable in a coconut milk, too bad I forgot what is the name of this dish. It was so good that he emptied the bowl.
We also ordered this button mushroom in oyster sauce, though nothing is special on this dish, but we were able to finish this as well.
As for me, I had this sour fish soup. Its similar to Thai’s tom yum soup less spicy. I find this really yummy that I finished all the fish and the soup, too bad i didn’t finish the veggies.
For our dinner, E and I head out from the hotel and decided to join some of the tourists, where else? Of course to Night Market and Pub Street! 🙂
The husband decided not to eat dinner as he was still full from eating 2 fresh coconut. 🙂 So I decided to order vegetarian spring rolls with peanut sauce for him, in case he feels like eating while watching me. 🙂 Its strange though, but every time I see spring rolls in the menu, either fresh or fried, I always had this urge to order them.
I had obsession with soup 🙂 so for dinner I ordered this hot pot fish and vegetable soup.
Too bad, on our second day lunch I didn’t took photos. ;(
For dinner, we went back to Night Market and the stars are in our favour, we saw Chamkar Vegetarian Restaurant! Finally, a vegetarian restaurant, wohoo!
For starters we had this bread, vegetable and fruit plater with eggplant and avocado dip.
I ordered stir fried Glass Noodles in coconut milk and curry sauce with vegetables and fried tofu. I find it salty though, but more or less its yum, plus its organic, who am I to complain. 🙂
E ordered this mixed vegetable soup, that again I forgot the name. haaayyy… According to him, this dish is also yum
Overall, we enjoyed the Khmer food, its new to our tastebuds. I’m hoping one of these days I’ll will come across a good Khmer food here in Singapore.
Wow! Those spring rolls! 🙂
